Salthawk community support special offering

There continues to be a crisis in Hutchinson among our young people. Generational poverty, drugs, unemployment, alcohol, and other challenges are robbing some of them of their youth and education. In 2017, our church partnered with USD 308, other churches, civic organizations, and individuals to form “Salthawk Community Support”, a group dedicated to addressing the needs of struggling students at Hutchinson High School.

With the success experienced at HHS, we expanded the program to Hutchinson Middle School 8 with the 2019-2020 school year. Our on-site staff deals with crisis intervention, social and emotional support, behavior intervention, academic support, and interaction with the families. In addition, basic needs of the students are met in the form of hygiene items, clothing, lunch funds, transportation and more. Volunteer tutors and mentors invest personal time with students, helping with schoolwork and forming supportive relationships. Programs are also presented that encourage self-confidence, respect, and financial management.

As we prepare for the 2020-2021 school year, we know the anxiety of the COVID-19 pandemic which altered the lives of so many youth during the spring and summer has resulted in additional emotional issues. The competent services of our on-site staff will be needed more than ever in the coming school year.

Please consider giving to help fund the efforts of this important ministry. You can direct your check to Salthawk Community Support and mail to Trinity United Methodist Church, 1602 N Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501 or you can donate safely online by clicking HERE.

Together, we are making a positive difference in our community – one student at a time. Thank you!
